Dominating the city skyline, magnificent Morelia Cathedral is a must-see when visiting this fine old colonial city. On the city’s beautiful main square, this huge structure is notable not just for its size but also for its unique pinkish-brown color, the result of being built of local trachyte stone. Although construction began in , it took more than years before the cathedral was completed in its now largely Baroque style with a striking azulejo-decorated dome. Also of interest is an Indian figure of Christ wearing a golden crown donated by Spanish King Philip II, and an imposing organ built in Germany in that is featured during the city’s international organ and music festivals. Of particular interest are the building’s fine murals painted in the s by Alfredo Zalce, one of Mexico’s most famous native artists. These enormous scenes depict many of both the state’s and the country’s pivotal moments, including the history of its independence from Spain and later reforms, as well as the Mexican revolution. After walking the long cobblestone path leading to this 18th-century church, pop your head inside, and you’ll be rewarded with a glimpse of one of the most spectacular church interiors in Mexico. Widely regarded as a national treasure, the interior was sumptuously decorated in the brightest of colors by European and native craftsmen, including countless fine plaster rosettes rising up the walls to the gold leaf covered ceiling. Once you’ve had your fill of this remarkable building, visit the nearby Church of St.
But to be competitive at Russia , here are five things they will need to urgently address. Resolve Ange Postecoglou’s future The future of the national coach remains up in the air, with the ex-Melbourne Victory boss refusing to reveal his intentions after the Honduras games, as rumours swirl that he is considering stepping down. With his determination to play attractive, passing football at all costs, Postecoglou is certainly a man of conviction. But some might say his unwillingness to relax his ideals for a more pragmatic approach in certain matches almost saw Australia miss out on the World Cup.
Even so, Football Federation Australia must do everything they can to keep the year-old.

January 22, iStock Dogs aren’t known for their picky taste in food, but some pups go beyond the normal trash hunting and start rooting around in poop, whether it be their own or a friend’s. Just why dogs exhibit this behavior is a scientific mystery. Only some dogs do it, and researchers aren’t quite sure where the impulse comes from. But if your dog is a poop eater, it’s nearly impossible to steer them away from their favorite feces.
A new study in the journal Veterinary Medicine and Science , spotted by The Washington Post , presents a new theory for what scientists call “canine conspecific coprophagy,” or dogs eating dog poop. In online surveys about domestic dogs’ poop-eating habits completed by thousands of pet owners, the researchers found no link between eating poop and a dog’s sex, house training, compulsive behavior, or the style of mothering they received as puppies.
However, they did find one common link between the poop eaters. Most tended to eat only poop that was less than two days old. According to their data, 85 percent of poop-eaters only go for the fresh stuff. That timeline is important because it tracks with the lifespan of parasites. And this led the researchers to the following hypothesis: Since their poop has a high chance of containing intestinal parasites, wolves poop far from their dens.
But if a sick wolf doesn’t quite make it out of the den in time, they might do their business too close to home.
For the entirety of the Beautiful Bastard series, I was transfixed by the light and fun approach these co-authors bring to the world of dating. Their ability to relay humor and sexiness through such irresistibly charming characters always felt akin to magic. No surprise here, the terrific twosome delivers again with Josh and Hazel.
This time around it was Hazel—a character laced with an entirely unique approach to life and an enchanting nature—that I found most endearing. There was some part of me that wanted her to pick me to be her new best friend—forget Emily or Josh. Instead, an unabashed free spirit, prone to bouts of rambling, she has the wherewithal to understand that changing herself to appear more dateable would never work long-term.

Mexico 6 Great Colonial Mexican Cities Mexico’s colonial cities are alive with culture—bustling markets, Baroque cathedrals, and archaeological museums. Susan Morgan delivers the definitive guide to six that are all an easy drive from the capital. It’s two days after Christmas, and my husband, Tom, and I are on our way to Mexico’s central highlands. Our plan, to explore the country’s fabled colonial cities, was born of circling conversations and books read including eccentric memoirs—stories written by aged conquistadors, tough-minded British freethinkers, and ambassadors’ wives as well as our dedication to visual culture, architectural history, and finding good things to eat.
The colonial era of Mexico, when it was called New Spain, stretched on for years, from the 16th century into the 19th. With the exception of Oaxaca, which is miles southeast of Mexico City, the great colonial towns are all located in the heartland of Mexico.

It was built in This historic center is roughly equivalent to the original layout of the city when it was founded in , and most of this layout has survived intact to the present day. Anticipating growth, this original layout had very wide streets and plazas for the time, with streets systematically arranged to allow for elongation.
The streets are systematically laid out, but not rigidly squared, with most having gentle curves designed into them.

Night of the Dead around Lake Patzcuaro by David Haun “Everyone knew that being dead could put you in a terrible mood. The spirits need help finding their way home and they must be made welcome. The door from the underworld, to the world of the living, is made with an arch of marigold flowers. The spirits arrive hungry, so their favorite foods are offered. They also arrive very thirsty and far too sober for the celebrations. They want candy, made in their image, skulls, and crave the bread of the dead.
They must be cheered-up. In death, as she was in life, if mama is not happy, no one is happy. All over Mexico, the last week of October brings cleaning and pruning to the cemeteries, where loved ones will return. Everything must be perfect.

The beauty of its beaches lapped by the water of the Sea of Cortez is indisputable, but to experience it up close you have to dive into the deep blue ocean. If you are in the city of La Paz, capital of this beautiful destination, visiting Los Islotes is quite a spectacle, because the rock formations making up this island are home to sea lions.

Stadium Guide History Burnley first moved into Turf Moor in after being invited to use a spare plot of land by Burnley Cricket Club who had occupied the site by themselves for over 50 years. With the exception of their Lancashire based rivals Preston North End, whose Deepdale Stadium holds the record, Burnley have occupied their football stadium for the longest period of time in England. Needless to say Turf Moor has changed substantially over the years, and Turf Moor has come a long way since the first capacity grandstand was built way back in After the publication of the Taylor Report in , Burnley were faced with no choice but to demolish their remaining terrace sections, and by September the ground was successfully converted to fully-seating.
Whilst some of the older fans may reminisce fondly about the olden days, Burnley as a club have adapted well to the modern era and have even gained promotion to the Premier League twice. This is an impressive achievement for a club whose stadium has enough seats for 1 in 3 inhabitants of the town which goes to show the relative size of the club compared to rivals.
Stands Turf Moor is comprised of the following four sections: Click the thumbnails above to enlarge an image of each stand and to read a more detailed description of each part of the stadium. The number of tickets released can increase for higher-profile matches such as the Premier League and FA Cup however. The position of the fans depends on how many are expected to attend with the club sometimes opting to place fans within either corner rather than in the middle.
